Indigo Cowl in Maroon and Blue
An modern exploration of an ancient technique. Indigo cowls are made from local Hudson Valley wool, wrapped with ikat resists and dyed in the warp chains before weaving. The dyeing method creates serendipitous patterns, revealed as the cloth is woven. The patterning resembles sound waves, blips on a radar, or disturbances in the atmosphere as they might appear on a data readout.
I wove these maroon and blue cowls in plain weave, with a 2-row white stripe between the two colors. Each one is a little different.
Leather cuff can be added to make styling simple.
Handwoven with care in Beacon, New York.
100% wool
Hand wash and dry flat
